Joyce Helen Foley, 83, died in Phoenix on Sept. 23, 2007.

Born Nov.12, 1923 in Le Mars, Iowa to Nicholas and Cecelia (Ferguson) Luken, Joyce graduated from Norfolk High School, Norfolk, Neb. in 1941. She worked at the Des Moines Ordnance Works in Des Moines, Iowa in 1942 and then for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Kansas City, Missouri from Feb. 1943 to Aug. 1944.

She married Roy Eugene Foley in Kansas City, Kansas on April 17, 1944 eventually moving to Phoenix in 1957 where her husband worked as an instrument maker and machinist for Goodyear Aerospace and she raised their family.

Joyce volunteered many years at the emergency room at the Maryvale Community Hospital.

Joyce is survived by her son Michael (Katherine) Foley of West Richland, Wash.; daughter Judith Ann Peters of Cave Creek, Ariz.; granddaughter Kristina (Michael) Peters of Granite Falls, Wash.; grandson Michael (Jennifer) Peters of Chandler, Ariz., and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband Roy, sisters Wanda Gerber and Donna Jensen, and son-in-law John Peters III.

Thanks to her hospice caretakers whose company and care she greatly appreciated. A private family gathering was held on Oct. 5 in Cave Creek.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
