Mrs. Vickery died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, in Lawton.
Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens under direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.
She was born Oct. 3, 1921, on a farm northwest of Weatherford, to Jacob and Mary Sauer Adler. She moved with her parents to a farm southwest of Indiahoma, where she graduated from junior high school. She married Richard E. Vickery on June 2, 1944, at Louisville, Ky. She was employed by Bell Telephone Company while her husband was stationed at Bowman Air Base. Soon after, he left for overseas duty, and she was transferred by Bell to St. Louis. In 1949, they returned to Lawton and remained. She worked 12 years as a bookkeeper for her husband's business, Vick's Gulf. After selling the business, she was employed by Dambold and Associates, as office manager for eight years, until her retirement in 1982. In 1989, she accepted the position as office manager for Mosher-Pickens Funeral Home, Plainville, Kan. She returned to Lawton in 1992 and worked part-time for Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home. She was a member of Methodist church, a life member of U.M.W., taught children's Sunday school and served one year as superintendent for vacation Bible school. She was a member of the B.P.O. Doer, a campfire leader and received the 7- Year Award for Leadership. She was a Life Member of Ladies Auxiliary Post No. 5263, and a member of the WIBC Senior Bowling League. Her husband died Oct. 10, 1997.
Survivors include children and their spouses: Peggy and Homer Koch, Lawton; Richard E. Vickery III and Leslie Vickery, Faxon; and Carol and Jack Morse, Lawton; a brother and sister-in-law, Herman and Dortha Adler, Indiahoma; a sister and brother-in-law, Viola and the Rev. John Cramer, Lawton; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and four brothers.
