OBITUARY, The Anthon Herald, 5 March 1947: Mrs. John Coon, 70, a resident of Correctionville for 61 years, died in a Sioux City hospital Thursday following a long illness. Musetta Anderson, daughter of James and Frances Anderson, was born April 9, 1876, at Harlan, Iowa, and passed away February 27, 1947, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Sioux City at the age of 70 years, 10 months and 18 days. She spent most of her life in and around Correctionville, with the exception of a few years in Colorado. She was united in marriage to John Coon September 29, 1892. She was a member of the Church of Christ and always attended services regularly as long as her health permitted. Mrs. Coon leaves to mourn her death her husband and eleven children, Elmer Coon of Cherokee, Oscar Coon of Glendo, Wyoming, Goldie Anfinson of Cushing, Cecil Peterson of Pierson, Elva McCleery of Ellensburg, Washington, Ferne Murray of Los Angeles, California, Verle Pilot of Berkeley, California, Dorothy Fryar of Long Beach, California, Eva Hunsader of Los Angeles, California, Margie Ferretti of Portland, Oregon, and Wanda Briese of Berkeley, California. Two sons and a daughter preceded her in death. Twenty-five grandchildren, and fifteen great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Maude Ferguson of Minneapolis, Minnesota, one brother, Bruce Anderson of Correctionville, two half-brothers, Clarence and Ira Deeds of Aitkin, Minnesota, and a host of relatives and friends mourn her departure. Funeral services were held Sunday, March 2, at 2 p.m. in the Church of Christ at Correctionville. Rev. S.L. Schuler, pastor of the local church, officiated. "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Rock of Ages" were sang by Ferne Clark, Genevieve Lill, Wilma LeFebvre and Clair Hatfield with Dean Cockburn as accompanist. In charge of flowers were Mrs. Henry Henderson, Jr., and Mrs. Charles Page. Pallbearers were all relatives of Mrs. Coon. Arthur Perkins had the arrangement of the cars and burial was in the Correctionville Cemetery.
