He was a Revolutionary War Veteran. On July 11,1998 at 10:30 A.M. The Le Ray de Chaumont Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution held a Grave Marking Ceremony Commemorating the Revolutionary War Service of William Collins.
He married Polly Ross in 1782. They had 8 children. Hannah, Tacy, Sophia, Polly, John B., Rachell C., Lydia & William.

Born: October 25, 1759 in Stonington, Conn.
Died: September 23, 1850 in Stone Mills, N.Y. aged 90 years, 10 mos. and 28 das.
Married: POLLY ROSS of Stonington, Conn.
Died: April 29, 1836 aged 76 years at Stone Mills, Jefferson Co., N.Y.

Service: "Served in the Revolutionary War" is on his headstone in the village cemetery in Stone Mills, Jefferson Co., N.Y. William Collins was placed on the United States Pension Roll of 1830, of Jefferson Co., N.Y.

Remarks: William Collins came into Jefferson Co., N.Y. about 1820 and settled in what is now the town of Orleans. William and Polly Collins were the parents of eight children: Polly, John, Rachael, Racy, Sophia, William and Lydia. Oakes History of Jefferson Co., N.Y., Vol. 2, page 1087
