The son of Richard & Sarah Lord, he married Mary Smith on April 15, 1665 in Hartford, Conn. He was lost at sea at age 49.
On October 8, 1668 Mrs. Lord (Sarah, his mother), Mr.Haynes & Mr. Richard Lord II having petitioned this Court for a confirmation of a lease of land they have by their predecessor Capt. Lord (Richard, Sr.) procured of the Indians within the Plantation of Haddam. Richard Lord II, was mentioned in the will of his grandmother, DOROTHY (Bird) LORD, dated February 9, 1668/9.
He was elected deputy to the general court in Hartford for Hartford several times between 1669 and 1674.
The inventory of his estate was take on June 25, 1686 by John Allyn & William Pitkin. In a special session of the court on February 20, 1685, Mrs. Mary Lord presented a letter from Robert Goffe, ship master, stating that the part of her husband's estate in the ship was in jeapardy of being lost unless speedy measures were taken to recover it. At her request, the court appointed Mrs. Mary Lord, relict of the sayd Mr. Richard Lord & her son, Richard Lord, to be administrators of the estate of the said Mr. Lord. Since her 16 yr old son, Richard, was not of age, she was granted sole power to administer until he came of age. Later in October of 1686, Mr. Thomas Hooker was added as an administrator.
Richard, Sr. was one of the wealthiest merchants of his time, made many trading voyages and was lost at sea Nov. 5, 1685, aged 49, leaving a large estate to his widow and his only child. The inventory of his property amounted to 5,786 pounds, and was with one exception the greatest up to that time in Hartford.
