LAFAYETTE - Services for Merle Abner, 88, of LaFayette will be today at 2 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Revs. G.K. Abner and Ricky Emery officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge. The body will be at the church an hour prior to services.

Mr. Abner died Thursday at Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley.

Survivors include five sisters, Alma Abner of Roanoke, Novella Bradley, Geneva Emery and Lora A. Childers, all of Wedowee and Willie Webb of Valley; and two brothers, Thomas Braxton Abner of Huguley and Buford Abner of Wedowee.

Pallbearers will be John Abner, Dave Bradley, Ronnie Yates, Mike McCormick, Larry Bradley, Jerry Rice and Buford Abner.

Mr. Abner was a native of Clay County and the son of William David and Viola Ovelta Holloway Abner. He was an Army World War II veteran and a professional singer with The Suwanee River Boys. He was Baptist.
