Mr. Kline was born in Germany, June 18, 1848, and came to this country with his parents in 1870 at the age of 22. He was Married March 5, 1873 to Miss Louisa Ruess, and after their marriage they made their home in Bennington, later moving to Owosso.
Nicholas is remembered as the moving spirit in organizing the "Kline Family Reunion" and was responsible for much of it's success in the beginning years.
Mr. Kline constructed the Bennington Evangelical Church, otherwise known as the "German Church" on the property of his brother-in-law Gottlob Ruess, on the south-west corner of Garrison and Friegal Roads in Bennington.
He worked most of his life as a Carpenter and followed the opportunities of that profession to Gaylord, in the years of rapid development brought on by the expansion of the railroads then lived and worked for a time in Bay City until he returned to Owosso and finally Bennington where he resided until his demise.
Mr. Kline is survived by his wife Louise Ruess-Kline and several children. The children are: Arthur of Vancouver, B.C., Clarence and Edward of Detroit, Ray and Jay of Lansing, Harry, Glen, Mrs. Maude Hayes of Owosso, Mrs. Bessie Hagon of Saginaw, Mrs. Helen BeDen of Durand, and Myrtle of Waunankanega. Five children preceded him in death.
The funeral will be held from the home in Bennington, Friday afternoon at 1:30. Rev. E. Hildebrand of the Asbury M.E. Church will officiate, and burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery.
