"Talcott R. Croninger was born Sept. 24, 1836, in Euclid, OH. He is the son of Jacob and Sally Ann (Dodge) Croninger. His father was born in 1808 in Pennsylvania, emigrated thence to OH, and came to this Twp. in 1849, where he now lives with his son.* His mother died in 1867.
"Mr. Croninger is engaged at Whitneyville in general blacksmithing, and manufacturing wagons and sleighs; repairs steam engines, and makes one of the best three-horse equalizers in the State. He has been similarly engaged 25 years.
"Mr. C. is acting school director, and is a Republican."

*Jacob, Talcott's father, deeded over his land to Talcott in return for a home in his old age. Talcott died soon after the property exchange, and his wife, Elnora (who then owned the land), married 2 more times, and neither husband 2) or husband 3) wanted to share a home with Jacob, even though they profited by their marriage to Elnora through Jacob's land. Jacob's daughter, widow Charlotte, then stepped in and gave Jacob a home with her 5 children and herself in Wheatfield Twp., Ingham, MI. This is why Jacob was buried in Leek Cemetery, Ingham, MI instead of Whitneyville, Kent, MI. The place of burial caused hard feelings toward Charlotte, but she had given freely of her home and care when no one else in the family would."

"History of Kent Co., MI", pg.704:
"Talcott R. Croninger was born Sept. 24, 1836, in Euclid, OH. He is the son of Jacob and Sally Ann (Dodge) Croninger. His father was born in 1808 in Pennsylvania, emigrated thence to OH, and came to this Twp. in 1849, where he now lives with his son.* His mother died in 1867.
"Mr. Croninger is engaged at Whitneyville in general blacksmithing, and manufacturing wagons and sleighs; repairs steam engines, and makes one of the best three-horse equalizers in the State. He has been similarly engaged 25 years.
"Mr. C. is acting school director, and is a Republican."

*Jacob, Talcott's father, deeded over his land to Talcott in return for a home in his old age. Talcott died soon after the property exchange, and his wife, Elnora (who then owned the land), married 2 more times, and neither husband 2) or husband 3) wanted to share a home with Jacob, even though they profited by their marriage to Elnora through Jacob's land. Jacob's daughter, widow Charlotte, then stepped in and gave Jacob a home with her 5 children and herself in Wheatfield Twp., Ingham, MI. This is why Jacob was buried in Leek Cemetery, Ingham, MI instead of Whitneyville, Kent, MI. The place of burial caused hard feelings toward Charlotte, but she had given freely of her home and care when no one else in the family would."
