Jacob was the son of Joseph Croninger Jr. and his wife Barbara/Barbery Speace.

6 CRONINGER siblings: Sarah B. B-1807 m. (_) Guntz; [Self] (1809-1900) m. Sarah Ann "Sally" Dodge; Jane B. (1812-1900) m. Joseph Fairbanks; Mary Ann (1813-1896) m. William J. Barris; Michael (1814-1896) m. Aurilla Bliss; Daniel (1818-1899) m. Melissa L. Bliss; Joseph (3rd) (1822-1904) m. Martha S. Stewart.

"Jacob Croninger moved as a youngster with his parents to Portage Co., OH, then to Euclid Twp., Cuyahoga Co., OH, where he married Sarah Ann "Sally" Dodge on 24 April, 1832, daughter of Abimael/Abeimel and Betsey (Reed) Dodge. After his father, Joseph, Jr. died (before 11 Oct. 1837 in Euclid Twp., when his estate was probated there), the Croninger siblings stayed there until about 1848/1849, when they then moved to Cascade Twp., Kent, MI. There the four brothers, Jacob, Joseph III, Michael, and Daniel purchased adjoining farms. Jacob's grandfather Joseph Sr. was a Revolutionary War Soldier."*

1. George Riley Croninger B-March 12, 1833 in Euclid Twp., Cuyahoga Co., OH. He died October 13, 1913 in Quincy, Adams Co., IL. George married 1) Harriet C. Stevens in about 1855. He married 2) Catharine Simon on June 16, 1865 in Quincy, Adams Co., IL. He married 3) Nancy Hetherton on June 22, 1909.

2. Talcott Reed Croninger B-September 24, 1836 in Euclid Twp., Cuyahoga Co., OH. He died on May 6, 1891 in Cascade Twp., Kent Co., MI. He married Elnora N. Cook on March 3, 1863 in Cascade Twp., Kent Co., MI.

3. Betsey [?Elizabeth] B. Croninger B-November 11, 1840 in Euclid Twp, Cuyahoga Co., OH. She died after 1869 in Grand Rapids, Kent Co., MI. She married 1) Nathaniel Williams on May 16, 1858 in Cascade Twp., Kent Co., MI. She married 2) Mortimer Ambrose on June 11, 1864 in Grand Rapids, Kent Co., MI.

4. Charlotte Almira Croninger B-October 22, 1842 in Euclid Twp., Kent Co., MI. She died December 30, 1913 in Wheatfield Twp., Ingham Co., MI. She married Calvin Franklin "Frank" Warner on September 20, 1868 in Yankee Springs, Barry Co., MI.

"Jacob was a great walker and never hesitated to begin a trek for a destination many miles distant.

"He died in the home of his widowed daughter, Charlotte (Croninger) Warner.

"Upon Jacob's death, the Kent County relatives were notified, and a grave was opened beside his wife, "Sally" in the Whitneyville cemetery. For some reason, Charlotte had bought a lot in Leek cemetery, Howell, Ingham, MI, and Jacob was buried there...while relatives waited at the Whitneyville Cemetery in Kent Co., MI."*
