Wayne's survivors included his wife; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela Denise and Alvin Varner and Lisa Kay Akers; a sister, Betty Lou Cravens; two brothers, Robert Eugene and Vernon Dee Akers and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on April 9, 1995 in the Cunningham Funeral Home in Bridgeport, Lawrence County, Illinois with interment in the Pleasant Hill/Petty Cemetery, Lawrence County, Illinois.
