Pearl Elizabeth Ross, 93, of Edgewood, Iowa died Monday May 8, 2000 at the Regional Medical Center, Manchester, IA from complications of old age. She was born October 16, 1906 in Floyd County, Iowa to Ben and Emma (Laun) Holthaus.

Pearl graduated from Colesburg High School, and taught country school for a short time. She was united in marriage to Stanley Ross on July 19, 1928 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They made their home in the Colesburg area for many years. Stanley died on June 1, 1967. Pearl eventually moved to Edgewood where she has remained until her death. Pearl was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church and its women's groups, she loved to read and enjoyed music.

Survivors include her two daughters, Mary Hagensick, Edgewood and Joyce Engelken and her husband Martin, Essex Junction, Vermont; her son, Bill Ross, LaBelle, Florida; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; a brother Burdette "Pat" Holthaus and his wife Gloria, Martell, Iowa; and numerous nieces, cousins, nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, and nine brothers and sisters.

Services were held at 11 AM Saturday May 13, 2000 at Trinity United Methodist Church, of Edgewood with Rev. Kent Newlon officiating. Interment was at Zion Cemetery, Colesburg, IA.
