Roxana 'Roxce' Donaldson Smith was the daughter of Timothy Donaldson and Abigail Elinwood Donaldson and the wife of Capt. Daniel 'Dan' Smith. Her father and grandfather both served in the American Revolution. She lived near Morris, Otsego Co, NY. Her children included Brigadier General Jesse C. Smith, who fought at Gettysburg; Dr. Alexis Smith, a medical doctor who specialized in treatment of cholera; and, Rev. Henry Russell Smith, a noted Presbyterian minister in Virginia.
In the 1830's the family changed its name from "Danielson" to "Donaldson," believing that "Donaldson" was the original family surname back in 1600's Scotland.
