Obituary
Steuben Republican Sep 25, 1912

Surnames: Shoup, Schieber

Fourth son of Peter and Anna Catherine Shoup, was born in Crawford County, Ohio, October 30, 1852, and was stricken down in the midst of health and happiness with his brow still wet from the sweat of toil, dying twelve days later at his home near Fremont, Indiana, Sept. 19, 1912, age 59 years, 11 months, and 19 days.
At the age of three years he moved with his parents to Williams County, Ohio where he grew to manhood. October 28, 1877, he was united in marriage to Anna Mary Schieber, of Defiance County, Ohio, and to the happy union were born four children, three daughters, Anna, Emma, and Rosena, and one son, Harvey. One daughter, Emma, preceded him to the better life beyond at the age of five years. With the exception of one year and a half spent in Texas, he lived near his father's home until October 15, 1895, when he moved with his family to the present home near Fremont. Here he lived until his death. He was converted to God while in young manhood and united with the German M. E. Church near Edon, transferring his membership to the German M. E. Church near Fremont, and later to the M. E. Church at Jones' Chapel. His life was one of faithfulness to his Master, always relying on the precious promises of God, not only in his daily life, but more especially during those last few tedious days when he could no longer hold his bible before his eyes, but repeated from memory comforting passages out of the scriptures. With words of advice and comfort to all, he assured us that if it was the Lord's will that he should go, he was ready and all was well.
We shall miss him, and there shall be lonely hearts, but we will not forget. Our loss is his gain. He leaves a wife, two daughters, one son, six grandchildren, three sisters and a host of friends to mourn the loss of one they loved and honored
