Eleanor, the three year old daughter of A. H. Abbey, died after a brief illness on Monday morning of diphtheria. She had not been well from Wednesday, but as she had only a slight fever, nothing serious was apprehended, but suddenly, and as it seemed, almost without warning, the little spark of life went out, and vacancy is in the little family circle, and great sorrow in the hearts of the parents. She was buried at ten o'clock on the 12th inst. in the Porterville cemetery beside her grand-mother, Mrs. Gilmer. [Tulare Daily Evening Register (California), Thurs., 14 Mar 1889, pg. 3]
