Died, at his residence in Marengo, Iowa, on Wednesday afternoon, January 31, 1894, at five o'clock, Daniel Cripe, aged 74 years, 7 months and 11 days.

Daniel Cripe was born in Ohio June 20, 1819. About 55 years ago he married his first wife, Mary Skyles, by whom he had six children, five daughters and one son, all of whom are living, the the exception of a daughter, who died in early childhood. In 1861, Mr. Cripe was called upon to mourn the loss of his wife. She died in this place and her remains were laid away in the old burying place three miles southeast of town. On the 7th of April, 1865, he married Mrs. Mary Blacketer, whose husband died in the army at Vicksburg in 1863.

Mr. Cripe was an honest, quiet and inoffensive man, and though never physically strong, he was industrious and always willing and ready to do what he could to take care of those who were dependent upon him. In early life he was converted and united with the Dunkard church. After his second married he transferred his relations to the Disciples' church, of which his second wife was a worthy member.

For the past few months his health appeared to be failing, and at times he suffered greatly, although able to be up and around. On Thursday evening, January 25, his symptoms became alarming and he went down rapidly. So brief was his last sickness that none of his children could be with him except his youngest daughter, Mrs Emma L. Crocker, who was at his bed side until he died.

The funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church on Friday morning at 10 o'clock and were conducted by Rev. W. B. Phelps, after which the body was borne to the "old cemetery" and laid by the side of his first wife's remains.
