There he was successful at mining. He returned home a few years later and married Nancy Ann Wyman who died within a year. They had one child.
The next year, he married Mary F Wyman, Nancy Ann's sister. They had 11 children. Mary & several children survived Elias.
He was a member of and active in the Baptist church for many years.
