Mattie Barnes, a descendent of one of Johnson County's most influential families which included such names as BENJAMIN BARNES, Mose, Ben, John Andrew who located in 1855 on Chambers Creek in Eastern Johnson County, founded the settlement of Barn(e)sville where the town was laid out in 1855, with a Post Office in 1876, with a gin, two churches, a school, with a population of some 150.

Railroad construction in another area caused the town to disappear as such in 1900. A most impressive cemetery with the Barnes family markers being very prominent, remains, and their descendants are prominent in Johnson County history, including the Jas. Park Fielder (who married Mattie Barnes (b.3-24-1867) to Capt Ben Barnes, CSA, and wife Melinda Sigler and her twin Cicero who died 6-14-1888 family; The Tom W Hines (who married Alice Barnes (b. 7-28-1875) parents of Lula, Nora, Tom and Ben Barnes, family; the Jess Kugle (who married Lula Lee (b. 5-23-1882) with children - DeWitt, Willard, Burnette, Mitchell, Charlotte, Paul Nelson family; Willard Moses (b.1-11-1886). All but Mattie and Cicero were offsprings of the second wife BURNETTA ARTERBURY b.1-1-44).

Born to Mattie Barnes Fielder were:
1. Cicero (b.7-26-1802, d.12-10-1970) m. Rose McNatt - children: B C b.1-11-1911, living in Farmersville, Texas;

2. Mattie (b.8-10-1914) m. Jas. Tolbert; Park Burton (b. 11-17-20), m. Martha Aston;

3. Helen Francis (b. 8-23-26) m. Walter Talbot; Alfred Fielder (b.8-3-1894, d.3-7-1897);

4. Jas Park Jr, (b.6-5-01, d. 11-2-56), m. Hazel Easton (b. 1-11-12); Robert E B Fielder, (b.11-23-06) m. 3-28-28 to Dorothy Taylor, (b. 1-25-08);

Cicero was a Methodist minister 50 years; Jas Jr cotton buyer; Robert E B, Merchant , Banker, Farmer/Rancher -bringing the first herd of Santa Gertrudis cattle and Landrace swine into Johnson County to Fieldeddale Farms, 3 miles north of Venus.

The Jas Parks and Mattie Barnes Fielder home in Arlington was located on the N.W of what was a 215 acre farm, at the corner of Fielder Road and Abram Street and the house is now Arlington Museum, called the Fielder Museum, which hosted some 27,000 visitors last year.

The Robert E B Fielder edited a 302 page family album/history/scrapbook with a considerable history of Johnson, Tarrant, and Grayson Counties therein, including some 1,000 pictures and some 5,000 names including many pre-1900 Johnson County citizen signatures as well as many after that date.

Copies of the edition, FOOTPRINTS can be found in the Van Alstyne Library (the building for same and the museum donated by the REB Fielder in 1973), at the Fielder Museum in Arlington, the Sherman Municipal and the Cleburne Municipal Library.
