Eli is my Great Grandfather on my mother's side. He was a farmer. He was 2 generations down from Henry and Lucy (Shepherd) Pumphrey. I have been corrected that most Pumphreys in America are descendent from Henry's Grandfather Walter Pumphrey(1655-1751). But Henry and Lucy certainly are ancestors to many of us.
