Some time after Christmas in 1905, Mr. and Mrs. Nels Myhre decided to move to North Dakota. They made the trip by the rail road, taking all their possessions, horses, live stock, machinery and furniture with them. They moved unto a farm, east of Sanborn, which they owned and farmed until 1945. The house at the time they moved into it was a stone house. The old foundation was retained but the house was rebuilt and added on. The old barn was torn down about 1919 and a new barn erected east of the house. In 1945 they moved to Long Beach, CA - where Nels died on December 15, 1946. Mrs. Myhre moved back to North Dakota and lived until her death on June 29, 1957.

Nels did not drive a car or tractor. His transportation was his horse and buggy. Andrew remembers Grandpa going from the farm near Sanborn to Fargo with his horse and buggy. He thinks it was about 1942. Grandpa stopped at the rural school where Andrew went to school to visit and went on his way to Casselton to stay over night. He went on to Fargo the next day and returned home staying in Casselton again.

Grandpa had running water for his stock tank way back when. He had a cistern built in the barn and when the wind was blowing the windmill would keep it filled. He had a stock tank below the hill from the barn and all he had to do was turn on the value and get water. It would flow by gravity.

Farming was much different in Grandpa and Grandma's day, then it is today with tractors. Andrew remembers Grandma putting the bridals on a team of horses, that seemed taller than she was, in the middle of the morning and taking them with lunch out to Grandpa in the field. She would take the other team of horses home to rest. At noon Grandpa came home had dinner and got fresh horses, in the middle of the afternoon.

Grandma would repeat the mid morning process of taking lunch and fresh horses.
