*Update* Aug. 16 2015 --Since originally writing this, a lot of interesting things have come to light. First part being as noted above, her first child Florence, was she actually the daughter of James Robert Burt Sr? She did not carry his name unlike we originally thought, she adopted Margarettes maiden name Haymand as her maiden name and consequently went to live with William in Stoneham, her uncle at a young age after living with her grandparents in Nova Scotia for a long time. 2nd part is, James Robert Burt Sr., who was he, why is there no record of a "marriage" between them? Why is she found giving birth to "baby boy" Burt in the Womens hospital (now Brigham and Womens hospital) as a foreigner with the surname Burt. Why does Sr. disappear, did he really die, was he a relationship vs. a marriage? Was there a scandal? Why so much mystery surrounding him, was he a merchant seaman, a traveling salesman? Lots of questions and mysteries in this branch.
Margarettes family seemingly disowned her, sent her to live with her brother and kept her daughter Florence up in Nova Scotia during the time period she went to Stoneham/Boston area and gave birth to my great grandfather Charles James Smith (born baby boy Burt, James Robert Burt Jr.) in a poor womans hospital (this was a hospital for widowed, poor, prostitutes ect at the time). In many of the family records she is seemingly erased as if she never existed, the only proof of her parentage is her own words, written so carefully by her daughter, Lelia, and saved for future generations to interpret and rewrite and yes to wonder, and to perhaps find a link any link to her relatives up in Nova Scotia. I think she was an amazing lady, but wonder why her childrens parentage are in question, and why no one really wrote down who Florence and James's(aka Charles) father really was. Amazing thing isn't it to wonder. I hope that someone interconnected with this tree comes across my questions, and maybe someday they will and they will know some answers. --Kathy
