Ms. Bootsey was a loving, caring, happy lady who loved children, although she had none of her own. She helped her sister, Mamie Rose Brooks(1915-1999), to raise her son, and later in life, shared in caring for her sister's granddaughter Wenonah when she came to visit. There were two other children who were half-siblings to Wenonah, but they were welcomed and treated as though they were family all the same. Bootsey was lovingly called "Nana" by all the children, and she enjoyed cooking and would sit with the children and watch them enjoying their meals.
Any child in the neighborhood was welcome to come in and enjoy some of Miss Bootsey's cooking, or even that of her sister, Miss Mamie. Both these wonderful ladies loved to cook, and would urge the children to come eat their respective meals! Kind of a light-hearted competition!
Miss Bootsey will always be remembered for her love of children, her generosity, and her sense of humor. She could always put a smile on everyone's face. She was also a member in good standing at St. Rita's Catholic Church on South Broad St. in Philadelphia.
Miss Bootsey passed away after a long battle with old-age dementia. She enjoys everlasting life in Heaven with Jesus, praise God!
