On October 24, 1844, Lewis Smyres and Martha Fink were married by James S. Austin, JP, in Hocking County Ohio. They had three sons: Daniel Poe, Lewis Allen, and Henry Fink; and one daughter, Eliza D., who died in 1852.

On April 26, 1857, Lewis Smyres and Amy Roena (Brown) Whitcraft were married by Samuel Demuth, JP,in Hocking County, Ohio. Amy was a widow with six children.

History of Wabash County:
LEWIS SMYRES. The birth place of Lewis Smyres was Hocking County, Ohio, where he first saw the light on the 11th of November, 1816. He remained in that county until in his forty-first year, when he removed to Wabash County. Having disposed of a farm in his native county, he bought a farm here with the proceeds at a trifle over $17 per acre. This land is estimated to be now worth over $50 per acre. October 24, 1844, he married Martha Fink, who deceased June 1, 1851, at the age of twenty-six years, leaving four children, named David P., Eliza D. (deceased), Henry F. and Lewis A. His second marriage was to Mrs. Emma Whitcraft, April 26, 1857 - Mary C., Elmira M., Clara O. (deceased), John W. and George W., twins, of whom George W. is deceased, Luther R., Amy R., Ida A. and an infant son that is deceased, are the children of the second marriage.
