President of Charlotte Supply Company Dies In Local Hospital After Illness.
Funeral services for Eugene Berrien Graham, Sr., of 923 East Boulevard, president of Charlotte Supply company, will be held Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock at Harry and Bryant chapel. Rev. Charles F. S. Kraemer of First Presbyterian church will officiate.
Interment will be in Elmwood cemetery. Mr. Graham died in a local hospital yesterday morning. He had been in declining heath for some time and suffered a heart attack Wednesday.
Born in Raleigh October 26, 1874, Mr. Graham was the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. George W. Graham, and the family moved to Charlotte in 1880. Mr. Graham attended the Charlotte schools Captain Barrier's school for boys and Horner Military academy. He was graduated from the University of North Carolina and was a member of the U. N. C. Monogram club, having won his letters as a star member of the baseball teams in 1894 and 1895. After graduation Mr. Graham was first associated with Thomas C. Griffith and later with Mayer Grocery company. In 1898 he became associated with Charlotte Supply company as a billing clerk. His advancement with that firm was rapid and several years ago he became its president. He had not been active in business for the last few years because of ill health.
In his youth, Mr. Graham was well known as a baseball player and after graduation from the University of North Carolina, where he was a star player, he continued his interest in the sport and for several years was a member of the Charlotte team.
Mr. Graham was a member of the First Presbyterian church and was active in Masonic organizations. He was a member and past master of Phalanx lodge, a member of the Scottish Rite bodies and of Oasis Temple of the Shrine. He was a charter member of Oasis Temple Patrol and was captain of the Patrol from 1914 to 1923. He also was past exalted ruler of the Charlotte Lodge of Elks. In 1896 Mr. Graham was married to Miss Louise Gratton Robertson of Charlotte, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. J. F. Robertson. Mrs. Graham died in 1942.
Surviving Mr. Graham are six children, F. B. Graham, Jr., Thomas P. Graham, George W. Graham, Robert G. Graham, and William A. Graham, all of Charlotte; and a daughter, Mrs. David Warlick of Lincolnton. Another son, James R. Graham, died several years ago.
