Vinetta (Babe) Roberts Wilson Butcher
January 4, 1915 - May 25, 2008

Vinetta (Babe) Butcher joined her Heavenly Family on May 25. She was 93. Vinetta was born January 4, 1915 in Allen, Nebraska to Elmer and Mae (Swift) Roberts. Babe was one of six children, Dean, Vernon, Voletta, Verda and Vesta. She graduated from Cedaredge High School in 1933. She became a Rebecka member in 1936 and was proud to have been a member for over 72 years. Babe married Elmer Wilson on April 7, 1939 in Price, Utah. They farmed in Utah and then in Colorado until they became custodians at the Cedaredge High School in 1947. They bought and lived in the Lovett House in Cedaredge. Many happy family memories were made in this home. Elmer passed away in 1969 and Babe continued on working at the Cedaredge school until her retirement in 1972. On March 26, 1976, Babe married Gilbert Butcher in Alamosa, Colorado. They made their home in Cedaredge-Hotchkiss area until his death, October 9, 1983. The next 18 years were spent traveling with her sisters, making quilts (she made her first quilt at the age of six years) and plotting out how to visit as many garage sales as possible that weekend. September, 2001, she moved to the Willows Assisted Living in Gunnison and made many new friends. March, 2008, Babe sustained a fall and had to have surgery at Montrose Hospital in Montrose. April 1st, she started rehabilitation at the Valley Manor Rehabilitation unit. May 22nd, she entered into the hospital and after a short illness, passed away on May 25. Babe never had any children, but she actually had hundreds of children. During the time she worked as a custodian at the Cedaredge Schools, she was greeted, hugged, and loved by her students. Babe said these memories must be what it is like to be a mother because they made her feel like one. Babe is survived by her big sister Voletta Wiley, in Caldwell, Idaho and many much loved granddaughters, nephews, nieces, etc. She is preceded in death by her first husband Elmer, her second husband Gilbert, her parents, two brothers, Dean and Vernon, and two sisters, Vesta and Verda. A memorial celebration of Babe's life will be held at the Chapel of the Cross by the Pioneer Town Museum in Cedaredge on Friday, May 30 at 10:00 a.m. Internment will follow at the Cedaredge Cemetery. Graveside services will be attended to by her Rebecka sisters. Arrangements are being handled by the Valley Lawn Funeral Home.
