Sammy H. Jarshaw, 87, of Robbin, MN, and formerly of Newfolden, died on Sunday, July 17, 2005, at Lutheran Sunset Home in Grafton, N.D.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 20, at the Drayton Lutheran Church, Drayton, N.D. Casket bearers include Jim Jarshaw, Reggie Bruggeman, Ron Prigge, Clark Kruta, Randy Bruggeman and Steve Holmstrom. Military honors were provided by the Drayton, N.D. American Legion. Interment was held at Gust Cemetery in Strathcona.
Sammy Herbert Jarshaw, the son of the late Alfred and Tillie (Langlie) Jarshaw, was born on July 16, 1918, in New Solum Township of Marshall County, near Newfolden. He attended school and grew to manhood there, and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Sammy served with the U.S. Army during World War II, and following discharge, returned to Marshall County.
He was employed by the Soo Line Railroad for a short time. On June 14, 1952, Sammy was united in marriage to Milada Kruta in Thief River Falls. The couple resided there prior to moving to the Robbin area. Sammy engaged in general construction work throughout the area for many years. He was a member of the Drayton American Legion Post. Milada died January 16, 2002, and Sammy continued to make his home in Robbin until October of 2003, when he moved to the Karlstad Healthcare Center at Karlstad. For the past month, he has resided at the Lutheran Sunset Home in Grafton, N.D., where he died on Sunday, July 17, at the age of 87 years.
He is survived by one son, Lew of Robbin; one daughter, Norine (Roger) Prigge of Grafton; two grandsons; one great-grandson; two brothers, Irvin (Margie) of Thief River Falls and Maynard (Kathy) of Olympia, Wash.; three sisters, Irene Holmstrom, Florence Lykken and Fern Bruggeman, all of Thief River Falls; sister-in-law, Genevieve Jarshaw, also of Thief River Falls; in addition to several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Sammy was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; sister, Pearl; two brothers, Elmer and James; and three brothers-in-law, Ray Holmstrom, Donald Lykken, and Leroy Bruggeman.
