OBITUARY Iron River Reporter Nov 9 1928 "Victims of Dual Killing Buried: Separate Funerals For Father and Daughter Are In Marked Contrast"
In marked contrast were the funerals of Frank Sarka, 50, and Katherine, 16, the daughter he murdered by striking 15 to 20 blows upon her head with a hammer last Monday noon.
Sarka, a suicide, was buried yesterday in Potter's field without a minister, without pallbearers and without services in the Sambaugh cemetery. Only his daughters, who wept bitterly that their father had snuffed out the two family ties in a fit of insanity, shed tears at the grave, and those were tears that were caused by memories of the whisp of a girl that had fallen heir to her father's cruel blows rather than sorrow for his death.
Katherine Sarka, victim of the father's rage, was reverently laid to rest yesterday morning with sorrowing friends mourning at the bier. Services were held from the St. Agnes Catholic church in Iron River with the Rev. Fr. Albert Treilles officiating. Burial was in the Stambaugh cemetery. The funeral services were held from the Iron River church to keep the morbid curiosity seekers away.
After locking both doors to his home in the Baltic location on Monday noon, Sarka in a fit of insanity pounded his daughter over the head with a hammer, left her lying unconscious on the bedroom floor and then stumbled into an adjoining room and committed suicide by pulling the trigger of a shotgun with his toe. Kathrine died the following morning at the Verona hospital as a result of injuries received, Dr. R. E. White believing that he struck her from as many as 15 to 20 times and caused several fractures of her skull.
Mary Sarka, 18, who has been employed in Milwaukee for the past few months, returned home on Wednesday to complete funeral arrangements.
