Mary was the first of nine children born to Samuel W. Gilleland and Rachel Proctor.

She married Joseph A. Hinds in Miller County, Missouri on December 12, 1888.

They had 10 children together.

Mrs. Jennie Hinds, a former resident of Eldon and Olean, died at 83 years of age in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ray Jones, 541 Oakford Drive, Los Angeles, Calif., following an illness of eight years. She suffered a broken hip in a fall and has been bedfast since that time.

Funeral services were held at the Phillips Funeral Home in Eldon Tuesday afternoon. Rev. A.L. Alexander of Lake Ozark conducted the services. Burial was made in the Eldon Cemetery.

Mary Jane Gilliland was born at Olean, Mo. July 30, 1867, the daughter of Samuel and Rachael Proctor Gilliland. Dec. 12, 1889, she was married to Joseph A. Hinds and they lived in Eldon until 1925 when the family moved to Kansas City. Her husband preceded her in death in 1932, and for the past eight years she has made her home in Los Angeles.

Two sons preceded her in death, Ralph Hinds was killed in 1929 while on duty with the Kansas City Police Force, and Paul died May 18, 1945.
She is survived by five daughters and three sons, Mrs. Maitland Dunn and Mrs. R.E. Jones of Los Angeles; Mrs. A.W. Francis, Kelso, Calif., Mrs. Agnes Boyer, St. Louis; Cliff Hinds, Eldon; Joseph R. Hinds, North Kansas City and Tandy Hinds, Kansas City.

Other members of the family are three sisters, Mrs. John Green, Steamboat Springs, Colo.; Mrs. John Starling and Leona Gilliland of Seattle, Wash.; four brothers, Sam Gilliland, Kansas City, Kan.; Grover Gilliland, Seattle Wash.; James and Hern Gilliland, Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
