SAMUEL W. GILLELAND

Samuel W. GILLELAND, aged 84, died Thursday afternoon after a sudden illness of about two hours. He was attacked by a severe pain in the abdominal region, which extended upward to the heart. Prompt action was taken for his relief, but there was nothing that could be done to avert the end.

Mr. GILLELAND has lived in Routt county since 1918, where he and his wife and three of his children have since made their home. Besides his wife he is survived by eight children, James and Hern GILLELAND and Mrs. Leona G. LLOYD, of Routt county; Mrs. Jennie HINDS, Eldon, Missouri; Mrs. Lizzie STRLING, Alberta, Canada; Mrs. Emma GREENE, Eagle, Iowa; Samuel and Grove GILLELAND, Parsons, Kansas.

Samuel W. GILLELAND was born in Olean, Missouri, in March, 1841. He severed with the union army during the civil war, and was soon to receive a pension from the government. Since his boyhood he has been a consistent and conscientious Christian.

The funeral was held at the residence Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock under the direction of A. W. Heyer. Rev. C. E. Hardesty assisted by Dr. R. M. Stevenson conducted the services. A quartette composed of Mrs. Sam Stevens, Miss Rachel Wood, Mr. Gilleland and E. A. Strange, sang four hymns. Mrs. J. E. Norvill played the organ. The hymns were "Abide with Me," "Nearer My God to Thee," "In the Sweet Bye and Bye" and "The Glory Song." The latter was always a favorite of Mr. GILLELAND, and he never failed to request that song whenever he had an opportunity to hear it.

There were many friends besides the relatives at the funeral and beautiful floral offerings. Interment was at the Steamboat Springs cemetery.
