George Pickel was a member of Co. E, 100th IL US Infantry. He was captured at Chickamauga and sent to Andersonville prison.
George died at the home of his brother Charles after a lingering illness of almost three years. Following an accident in a runaway which occurred three years ago, he had suffered from stomach cancer. Both he and his wife were seriously injured in the accident.
George was born in Orleans Co., NY. He and his wife, Mary, had no children. He did have a step-sister, Mrs. Julia Coons, who was living in Brookfield, MO at the time of his death.
He also had a brother, Charles Pike, who was married to Matilda ? Nieces and nephew: Georgia Johnson, Jessie Shiffer, Norman Pike
