Paul Joseph Danielson July 26, 1915 - July 1, 2008 A native of Wisconsin, Paul Danielson received his Bachelor of Science degree in education in 1941 at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and a year later he was awarded his master's degree. From 1942-1946, he served in the U.S. Army as a classification specialist, psychiatric social worker and clinical psychologist.

In 1943, Paul married his college sweetheart, Ruth Huebner of Neshkoro, Wisconsin. In 1946, they moved to Superior, Wisconsin, and then Milwaukee where Paul worked in the guidance center of the Veteran's Administration. He then entered the PhD program at the University of Wisconsin, earning his Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1951. In June of 1951, the Danielson family moved to Tucson where Dr. Paul J. Danielson became one of the eleven faculty members of the University of Arizona's College of Education. Counseling and Guidance was a new graduate degree program, and the department's seven classes were taught by Dr. Danielson. In 1966, he was appointed head of the Department of Counseling and Guidance and served in that capacity until he returned to full-time teaching in 1978. Dr. Danielson served as president of the Arizona State Psychological Association and the Arizona State Personnel and Guidance Association. In 1977, he received the ASPGA's Outstanding Member Award. Paul was also active in community service: President of the Tucson Child Guidance Center, a member of the advisory committee for Tucson Unified School District's Guidance Program, Tucson Youth Board, Family Service Agency Board, and the Pima County Mental Health Association.

After thirty years of teaching in the College of Education, Paul retired in June 1981. When not traveling with his wife Ruth and their College of Education friends, Paul could often be found sketching, listening to music or in his woodshop, crafting his many family heirlooms - an avocation and talent learned from his father Daniel, a master woodworker. Following a long, interesting, and fruitful life, Paul passed away with dignity surrounded by his family.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Ruth H. Danielson, his children, Gudrun Godare (Randall Smith), Mark Danielson (Linda Knochel), Daniel Danielson (Julia Dalton Danielson), Kristen Danielson Musgrove (John Christopher Stevenson, II, deceased), and four grandchildren, Paul, Amy, Peter and Hanna.

The Danielson family's love of reading, learning, traveling, and art comes from their long association with the University of Arizona. This includes four graduates, countless fine arts and cultural experiences, and more than half a century of cheering for the Wildcats.

To honor Paul's memory, the Danielson family has founded a scholarship in the UA College of Education. Donations can be made to: UA Foundation and mailed to: Nina Daldrup, Director of Development U of A College of Education, 1430 E. 2nd St., Room 205, P.O. Box 210069, Tucson, AZ 85721-0069.
