Maxwell Alman was the son of Mary Zintz (1863 - after 1920) and Hyman Alman (1858 - after 1930). His parents were born in Russia and immigrated to Massachusetts sometime between 1887 and 1890. Both parents died in Massachusetts.

In 1916, he married Josephine Mary Callahan (1898-1989) in Massachusetts.
Children:
Shirley Mae (1919-1982)
• Dorothy J. (1924-__)
• Barbara A. (1928-__)

On October 5, 1918, he joined the U.S. Army Infantry where he served as a Private.

He moved to California sometime before 1924, as his daughter, Dorothy, was born in California.

He then moved back to Massachusetts where his youngest daughter, Barbara, was born.

Sometime before 1930, he permanently relocated to Los Angeles, California with his family.

The 1930 U.S. census and California Voter Registrations indicate he was a salesman.
