Mary Platt was born on 31 August in Milford, Connecticut as the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Kellogg) Platt early settlers of New Haven Colony. She was christened on 4 September 1681 at the First Church of Milford.

Mary married John Woodruff on 22 Dec 1698 by Governor Treat. They were admitted to Milford First Church on 13 August 1699 where all their children were baptized. John was in the Milford Trained Band. He was an Ensign (8 May 1718), made the rank of Lieutenant (14 May 1719) and Captain (14 May 1724). On 7 November 1702, John Woodruff bought land at Milford, making him one of the first Woodruff to being a land owner. He was a cordwainer (shoemaker) by trade, a captain in the militia and was on the list of Land Patentees in 1712/3. John died in 1726, leaving Mary a widow for 40 years. At his death, John's estate was valued at 4,299 pounds.

She was buried in 1766 in Milford Cemetery.

Their children were:
1)Mary b. 3 Mar 1699, bap. 10 Mar 1699/1700 married Thomas Buckingham, son of Thomas and Mary Briscoe Buckingham. She died 18 april 1790 at the age of 91 in Watertown, CT.
2)Sarah, b. 1701 bap. 26 Oct 1701 in Milford, CT and married to Joseph Hull of Derby, CT.
3)JOHN WOODRUFF was born 26 May 1703 in Milford and married Hannah Andrew, daughter of Samuel & Abigail (Treat) Andrew abt 1726.
4)Joseph b. 18 Feb 1704-5, Milford, CT married 22 Jan 1728/9 to Phebe Newton, daughter of Samuel and Phebe Platt Newton. Died on 20 Jan 1766.
5)Suzannah b. 3 May 1707 bap. 4 May 1707 in Milford, Ct. Married 15 Dec 1725 to Thomas Clark, son of Samuel & Mehitable (Phippen) Ford Clark. Died 11 Dec 1742.
6)Anna born 25 Feb 1707/09 Bap 27 Feb 1708/09
7)Ann b. 2 Mar 1710/11 Bap. 27 Feb 1710/11 Married 7 Aug 1729 to Andrew Tuttle, son of Daniel and Hannah (Sanford) Tuttle. Died 27 Feb 1787 in Milford, CT.
