Her parents, John Jasper Crowson and Martha Lindley, were married 22 Oct 1846. According to the "Daughters of Republic of Texas", her father John was killed in battle during the Mexican/American war in March 1847, just four months before Sarah was born. A land judgment review by the Texas Supreme Court in 1895 states Sarah, the only child of John Jasper Crowson and Martha Lindley, to have been born not earlier than the 22nd of July 1847.
