Walter Adams,Sr., was born on Saturday, October 15, 1927 in Delta, Louisiana to Irene Hillard and John "Johnny" Adams. He later moved to Chicago, Illinois. Upon graduation from Crane Tech, he enlisted in what was then known as the Army Air Corps. He was a Fireman in the Army Air Corps, when the Army Air Corps split into two separate branches, Walter chose the United States Air Force. Walter's speciality in the Air force was Aircraft Mechanics/Inspector.

While in the service, he also did Auto Repair. He would say "an engine is an engine...it doesn't matter if it's a jet engine or an automoblie engine, the principal is the same".

In 1948 while stationed in Montgomery, Alabama he met Georgia Grant, his "Georgia Peach" as many of his friends referred to her. They were married on June 7, 1949. Together they raised five children, Kenneth, Walter Jr., Scherrie, Sharon, and Vincent.

Walter's career in the Air Force included tours of duty in World War II, the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Other duty assignments would take him to Alabama, Florida, Minnesota, Tennessee, Louisiana, Nevada, South Carolina, and France to name a few. As a military family they moved often.

Walter was selected to attend the Non-Commissioned Officers Acadamy, and several leadership development summits. He retired in 1973 at the rank of Master Sergeant, after 30 years of service

After retiring Walter embarked on a career in auto sales. He referred to it as a "hobby" not a job. He would tell his co-workers that he would be okay if he didn't sell a car because "the Eagle" still flies...in other words, Uncle Sam would still send him his retirement check!

Walter could always be found tinkering in his garage... more often than not on a car. He was known for being able to diagnose the status/problem with an engine just by listening as you drove by the house. He became the preferred mechanic to a few people in the neighborhood. But he wasn't limited to just cars. He used to say "if it cost more than $100.00, learn to fix it yourself!" He installed water heaters, garbage disposals, garage door openers, sprinkler systems, etc... But his pride and joy was the roof that he and his son Walter Jr., installed.

Walter was also known for his words of optimism. A few in particular are "Just think... if Ringling Brothers can teach Elephants to dance, then there is hope..." another when asked how he was doing he would often reply "I Got it made just didn't know it."

Walter passed away peacefully at home with his family on Saturday Morning, February 14, 2009.
