Nancy Berry was born in 1772 to John Berry and his wife, Elizabeth. Her father was in George Rogers Clark's Army during the American Revolution. Nancy married Kentucky pioneer Maj Daniel McGary, 9 January 1790, in Harrodsburg, Kentucky. Their children were Mary, Tolliver, Elizabeth, and Samuel Goode Hopkins McGary. When Nancy's father died, Daniel became guardian of her two youngest sisters, Mahala and Mary Berry. They also raised their orphaned granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Harvey. The McGary family moved into Henderson County (now Hopkins County), Kentucky, with Daniel's brothers in 1798. They appeared on the US Census of 1800 and 1810 in Hopkins County. Daniel served his country in the War of 1812. On the Census of 1820 and 1830, the McGarys appeared with a large family in Hopkins County. Nancy Berry McGary died, 21 September 1834, aged 62, in Madisonville, Kentucky, and was buried with her husband at Flat Creek Cemetery in Mortons Gap, Kentucky, near the now extinct settlement known as McGary's Station.
