The land for Grandview Cemetery was donated by John. He brought his marble monument in piece by piece, by horse and buggy. Originally there was a large urn in the center of the monument in which to place flowers. The memorial was vandalized and that part is no longer there. According to a few notes I have found written by his grandson(my Dad), there used to be a brick church on that land but is no longer standing.

Coffeyville Daily Journal (Coffeyville, Kansas) Tuesday evening, May 10, 1910:
"John Hopping, aged 60 years, died Sunday at his home near Brooks. He was an old settler in that vicinity."

The Independence Daily Reporter (Independence, KS) dated Sat. June 24, 1911 gives this information regarding the farm:
"The east 100 acres of the John Hopping farm eight miles north of Cherryvale has been sold to A. B. Canada of near Neodesha. The tract is to be improved with a fine house and stables. Mr. Canada expects to live on the farm as soon as the improvements are finished. The deal was made by a real estate man of Neodesha."
