CHERRYVALE — Mrs. Celestia Carson, 81, Cherryvale, died at 10:20 a.m. Sunday at Colonial Lodge in Independence, where she had resided the past three months.

She had taught school in Montgomery and Wilson Counties for forty-seven years before retiring in 1956.

She was born June 18, 1888 in the Brooks neighborhood northwest of Cherryvale, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Hopping.

She married James Henry Smith in April 1919 at Oswego and he died in March 1948. She and Lee F. Carson were married in August 1959 and he died in July 1965.

A son, Marquis, two brothers and a sister preceded her in death.

She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Woman's Library Club.

Surviving are a son, Robert I. Smith, Midland, Texas; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. R.F. Sale, San Fernando, California; and Mrs. Walker Banicki, Cherryvale.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the United Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Bruce Brigden.

Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of the Burns Funeral Home.
