A native of Newberry, S.C., Mr. Dawkins was the son of the late Martin Dawkins Sr. and Iva Blankenship Dawkins.
He was a decorated United States Army veteran and served during World War II in Central Burma India. He also had a long successful career as a master mechanic.
Mr. Dawkins was the widower of Faye Thompson Dawkins.
Mr. Dawkins is survived by his four children, Linda Dawkins of Rock Hill, Marty Dawkins and his wife, Janet, of New York, N.Y., Violet Jordan and her husband, Ken, of Indian Trail and Michael Dawkins and his wife, Laura, of Kannapolis, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery in Indian Trail, N.C., with Pastor Ken Jordan officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill.
