BATES TOWNSHIP-The day for a commemorative party to celebrate a belated golden anniversary and a house warming came for Rudy and Evelyn Javoroski recently. Standing on the steps of their new home at 136 Javoroski Road in Bates and looking over the gathering of family and friends, Evelyn emphasized, "everybody was so good to us when we lost everything."
On Nov. 2, 1990 a fire of undetermined origin burned the Javoroski 1912 homestead home. The couple spent the winter in a rented cottage planning to rebuild. A contractor began construction in the spring of 1991 in a new two bedroom bungalow, centered on the Javoroski forty.
A year passed. The Javoroskis have settled in their new home. Coming home to host the July 11 yard party were the couple's four daughters and families. The group includes: Audrey Stanley of Fairfax, Va., mother of four; Claudia Arvey, Shawano, Wis., mother of two; Merri Dupras, Marquette, mother of two; and Gail Colberg, Green Bay, Wis., mother of three. Spouses and three great-grandchildren were also here.
Rudy Javoroski and the former Evelyn Nelson, both from pioneer Bates Township families, were married June 14, 1941. He retired from a career with Layne Northwest Drilling Company and Hanna Mining Company. He continues hobbies in his new garage. His wife, a WIC Elementary School librarian for 18 years, has retired to reading, teaching cooking through Iron County Community Schools and volunteering assistance in other education forms.
