Obituary
Mr Isaiah Masters, one of Brunswick Township's oldest and most highly respected citizens, died at his home five miles north of Brunswick on Monday, February 11, after a week [long] illness. Mr Masters had been in failing health for several months, but had been confined to his bed only a few days.

Isaiah Masters was born in Noble County, Ohio, July 8, 1840, and was 77 years, 7 months, and 3 days old. His youth was spent in the county of his birth, till May 5, 1861, when he enlisted in the Federal Army, in Company C, 28th Ohio regiment, under Captain Jerry Williams. After serving two years and eight months, he was discharged on account of re-enlistment. January 1, 1864 he re-enlisted in the Army at Folly Island, South Carolina, and continued active service with the Union Forces. During this period, November 30, 1864, he received a wound which resulted in the loss of his left arm, and for this reason he was discharged finally June 20, 1865 at Columbus, Ohio.

After the war, Mr Masters returned to Ohio, and there was married, April 12, 1865, to Miss Susan Price, of Washington County. Three children were born of this union. In March, 1867, Mr Masters moved with his family to Kentucky, where his wife died in March, 1873. In 1874, Mr Masters again was married, and three children were born of this marriage. He lost his second wife in 1878, and in November 1884, he was married to his present wife [record of marriage]. To this union seven children were born, six of whom are now living. Besides his wife and eight children, he leaves twenty-eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and a host of friends.

Mr Masters came to Missouri in 1898, settling on a farm near Brunswick and continued to make his home here until the time of his death. He was a man of the highest character, whose moral courage, rugged honestly and untiring industry marked him as one of this community's best citizens. He was devoted to his family, kind and obliging to his neighbors, and had the high esteem of one and all.

Funeral services were conducted at his home Wednesday by Reverend Gillihan followed by burial in Hazel Ridge cemetery.
