EMMA BERTHA CAROLINE SOEFJE (1868-1951), daughter of Heinrich and Marianna 'Anna' (Willmann) Soefje, was born on the Soefje farm at Neighborsville in Comal County on December 2, 1868. She was baptized Emma Bertha Caroline Soefje on January 1, 1969 at St. Martin's Lutheran Church. Godparents were Frau Caroline Stein (her mother's sister), Frau Sachtig, Christian Timmermann (her father's half-brother), and Christian H. Isensee . Here she grew to young womanhood. With others she enjoyed a pleasant childhood, attending the public school and the several social activities of the young people of those days. As a young woman, she was married on March 14, 1894 in Comal County to THEODORE HEINRICH KOHLENBERG (1865-1938), who was born June 7, 1865 in Comal County. The young couple settled on the farm near Freiheit. Their lot was not always a bed of roses, as there were many hardships and difficulties to overcome, but they were stalwart people and were successful. Theodore died on April 23, 1938 in Comal County. Life on the farm was too much for Emma now that her companion was gone, so in 1939, she moved to New Braunfels and made her home with her daughters, Melitta and Ruby. She passed on to the better home in heaven on April 8, 1951. Emma and Theodore are buried in Comal Cemetery.
