Austin Hendershot, 70, of E. Prospect St., Hackettstown, chief of the Hackettstown Fire Department in 1951-52, died Tuesday at Morristown Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 4, 1897, in Greendell, he was a son of the late Thomas and Carrie Berry Hendershot.
Mr. Hendershot was a Sinclair Oil distributor. He retired in 1963.
He was a member of the Trinity Methodist Church, Independence Lodge 42, F&AM, Vigilant Hook and Ladder Co. 1, Hackettstown, and the New Jersey Fireman's Relief Association.
Survivors include his widow the former Grace Smith, and two sisters, Mrs. Hazel Billow, Mount Herman, and Mrs. Emily Van Auken, Blairstown.
