Transcription of letter to C. E. H. Whitlock from Rev. and 1813 War Section, dated Feb. 16, 1925:

"Sir:
I have to advise you that the papers in the Revolutionary War pension claim, W. 18413, it appears that Abel Whitlock was born April 17, 1759.
He enlisted and served as a private in the Connecticut Troops as follows-
From the spring of 1779, six months in Captain Nathan Gilbert's Company, Colonel Mead and Stephen St. John's Regiment, and was at the burning of Fairfield and Norwalk.
From in October 1779, three months in Captain Eliakin Smith's Company of Coast Guard, Colonel Stephen St. John and Mead's Regiment.

From March 22, 1780, nine months and nine days in Captain Eliphalet Lockwood's Company of Coast Guard, Colonel Stephen St. John's Regiment.
From in the spring of 1781, three months in Captain Nathan Gilbert's Company, Colonel Stephen St. John's Regiment.
He died May 20, 1829 in Wilton, Connecticut.
Soldier married in Wilton, Connecticut March 30, 1785, Phebe Birchard, who was born April 16, 1766, and she was allowed pension on her application executed August 16, 1838, while a resident of Wilton, Connecticut.
Their children were-
Zillah born June 30, 1786, married ----- Janee
Eliphalet " May 29, 1793.
Hannah " April 12, 1796.
Elizabeth " July 15, 1800.
