Although the name was also spelled as Devore in some records and two of his sons took that spelling, Solomon signed his name as Devoir.

Many people have given Solomon the middle name of Lindsay, but in no record have I ever seen him have a middle name, not even an initial.

I am not positive that Solomon is buried in this cemetery, but I believe he may be as his son Solomon L. is buried here. I know from his wife Margaret's memorial that she was buried beside her husband and Margaret lived with her son Solomon L. in this vicinity.

Solomon Devoir was first married to Barbara Clingansmith in 1828, she died and he then married Margaret Jane Goodwin in 1832.

Solomon and his first wife Barabara had one son, John Devore, 1829 - 1881-9, whose grave is unknown. John married Lydia Carter and resided in Mason County, WV.

Solomon and his second wife Margaret had 10 known children.

DIED
DEVORE -- Elder Solomon Devore died at his residence in Clinton County, Mo. He moved from West Va. in 1874. He formerly preached in Ohio, and lived in Green Township, Gallia County. His disease was pneumonia; taking sick on the 27th of February and dying on the 4th of March, 1880. He leaves six daughters and four sons to mourn his loss. His sons are all in the west except one who resides in West Va. His wife still survives. One of his daughters married F. D. Gilfilen, and resides in West Va. F.D.G.

Thank you Uncle Frank (Francis Daniel Gilfilen). I have searched seven years for Solomon's death to no avail, if it were not for the death notice you placed in the Gallipolis newspaper, I dare say that there would be no record of Solomon's death in existence - 2015.
