Born May 9, 1923 in Versailles, IL, Roy was a son of George and Stella Ransom Black. He married Patricia Lawrence on June 17, 1977 in Quincy. She survives.
Roy was a 50 year member of the Machinist Union No. 822. He worked at Knapheide Manufacturing Company for 34 years until retiring in 1985.
Roy is also survived by a daughter, Shirley Brown, husband Jerry of Knoxville, Tennessee; a son, Roy Black wife Kathy of Indiana; a step-daughter, Sheryl Henderson of Quincy; three step-sons, Curt Goodwin and his friend Vicki Gilliand of Quincy, Lloyd Goodwin and wife Cheryl of Quincy and Dusty Hogan and wife Cindy of Kellerville, Illinios; 7 grandchildren; 15 step-grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ella Putman and her husband Wayne and Judy Buchanan, both of Mt. Sterling, Illinois and several nieces and nephews.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with Rev. George Tomko officiating.
Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday morning from 10:00 until the time of services at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Roy Black Memorial Fund.
