Joshua Shahan and Mary Keyser were married Nov. 30, 1809. Mary's parents; Andrew and Mary Palmer Keyser came to Belmont County, Ohio circa 1800 from Pennsylvania. The 1850 census documents Joshua as having been born in Delaware. They lived in Mead Twp., Belmont Co., OH. Joshua was a teamster and drove "six horse teams", to haul goods from place to place. They had nine children.
