John Swearingen was born in Edgecombe County, North Carolina. He was married twice, but only the name of his 2nd. wife Elizabeth (Betsy) is known. John lived in Edgefield Co. NC where he enlisted as a private, and later was appointed a Lieutendant.
John's wife Elizabeth (Betsy) is said to be a Fisher, however Folks Huxford states in his book (Pioneers of Wiregrass GA) p417) "James Fields of Burke Co., was evidently father or brother of John Swearingen's second wife, Elizabeth".
By 1794 John was living in Montgomery County, GA. He died there ca 1804-1805.
