Nov. 9, 1889 issue of Petersburg Observer: Mrs. Eliza Wilcox McNabb died at her residence, four miles southeast of Petersburg, October 26, 1889, aged 68 yrs. 2 months, and 5 days. The subject of this sketch was born in Greene county, Ky., August 21, 1821. She removed with her parents to this county - then Sangamon-in 1826. She was united in marriage to Howard McNabb, September 7, 1848. Her husband died February 7, 1859, leaving her to care for their three little children, two boys and one girl, all of whom are still living. She professed religion at old Lebanon, under the preaching of the venerable John M. Berry, and although she never united with any church, has lived an earnest, faithful Christian life. Mrs. McNabb was a quiet unassuming woman, faithful in all the duties of wife, mother and friend. She bore her long painful illness with great patience and fortitude, expressing entire submission to the will of Providence, and leaving abundant proof of her unwavering trust in God. Quietly and peacefully she closed her eyes up on the scene of a life that had been one of toil for her, and folded her tired hands to rest in the peaceful sleep of the just. Rev R. D. Miller preached the funeral sermon in the Presbyterian church in Petersburg, on Monday, Oct. 28, and her remains were followed to their last resting place in Rose Hill by a large concourse of people. She left behind her no enemies, but in the hearts of all who knew her are only kind and loving memories. Sweet be her sleep. (Petersburg Observer November 9, 1889)
