NOTE: The Clifton family was quite prominet in Springfield and the surrounding area. There is a Clifton Cemetery just south of Marshfield, the County Seat for Webster County, the next county over from Greene County. Several Clifton family members are laid to rest in the Hazelwood Cemetery and other cemeteries in Springfield. James's daughter, Clara Beatrice Clfton would marry Leo Douglas Nichols. There would be streets in Springfield named for both families. In fact, Clifton Ave and Nichols St cross each other ~
