James Franklin Clifton was born on March 2, 1852, in Missouri City, Missouri. His father, Sidney A Clifton, was 27. Side note: Sidney was a Private for the Union Army during the Civil War. Sadly, Sidney was killed during battle on December 27, 1863 in Union City, Obion County, Tennessee. He would be laid to rest there and later moved to the Corinth National Cemetery in Corinth, Alcorn County, Mississippi. James's mother, Paralee Elizabeth Jones Clifton, was 19 when James was born. Sidney and Paralee had 7 known children together, including James: Nathan Bills, James Franklin, John Maximillian, Solomon "Sol" Blaxton, Mary Jane, Sarah Elizabeth and Robert Sidney ~
James married Martha Jane Rice Clifton on October 17, 1880, in Dallas County, Missouri. They had five known children together, all girls: Effie Mildred, Clara Beatrice, Gracie Elura, Nettie Elizabeth and Nellie May ~
James passed away on December 23, 1936, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of 84, and was laid to rest in the the Hazlewood Cemetery in Springfield, Greene County, Missouri, beside his beloved wife, Martha ~
NOTE: The Clifton family was quite prominet in Springfield and the surrounding area. There is a Clifton Cemetery just south of Marshfield, the County Seat for Webster County, the next county over from Greene County. Several Clifton family members are laid to rest in the Hazelwood Cemetery and other cemeteries in Springfield. James's daughter, Clara Beatrice Clfton would marry Leo Douglas Nichols. There would be streets in Springfield named for both families. In fact, Clifton Ave and Nichols St cross each other ~
