Lifelong Alaska resident Sean Smith, 23, died June 21, 2004, in Anchorage. A visitation was held at Evergreen Memorial Chapel, 737 E St. A funeral was held immediately followed by a graveside service at Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Brant Barker officiated. Pallbearers were Melvin Smith, Kenneth Smith Jr., Aaron Lindquist, Curtis Dushkin, Logan Prokopowich, Ivan Hoblet, Richard Smith and Jeremiah Shacle. A reception was afterwards at Viking Hall, 8141 Briarwood St.

Mr. Smith was born Nov. 28, 1980, in Anchorage. He grew up in Anchorage, Willow and False Pass, where he enjoyed outdoor activities, especially racing motorcycles, dirt bikes and four-wheelers and skiff riding and snowboarding. He was a member of Sons of Norway and enjoyed basketball, rafting, racquetball, steam baths, swimming, drawing and traveling. His family wrote: "Sean was proud of being an Area M commercial fisherman and a member of the International Union of Heavy Equipment Operators Local 302. He attended UAA, taking courses in automotive technology and working towards his general degree requirements. "Sean loved his life. He was loved by his (family). Sean was loving, kind hearted, outgoing and generous, sharing his sense of humor with everyone. Sean's joys in life were hanging out with his twin sisters and friends, driving around listening to music, watching movies and making everybody laugh with his goofy, crazy and fun-loving playfulness. He adored children, and they adored him. He lit up a room with his smile and energy and will be greatly missed."

Survivors include his parents, Melvin and Grace Smith; sisters, Valerie and Whitney Smith; grandmother, Olga Bjorg Eggum; great-grandmother, Haldis Fosse; aunts and uncles, Eileen and Erling Johansen, GlenOve and Jennifer Haagensen, Jan Eric Haagensen, Kenneth Smith Jr., Nancy and Esiah Dushkin, Marilyn and Billy Dushkin, Teresa and Charlie Anderson, Virginia Smith, Barbara Washington and Julia Smith; and extended family in Alaska, Washington and Norway. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Ove Haagensen; grandmother, Mary McAleer; and uncles, Robert and George Shellikoff. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Smith's name may be made to Alaska USA Federal Credit Union. P.O. Box 196613, Anchorage 99519. Arrangements are with Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
